safehouseShort Review: See it, it’s good. Denzel is always good, and Ryan Renolds pulled off a serious role quite well.

This is or isn’t your quintessential cia, spy, action flick, depending on how you look at it.

It IS quintessential given the plot, twists, and predictable good guy/bad guy flip confusion...whatever.

It is NOT quintessential in that...it does the action really well.

Now, this wasn’t a perfect movie (not sure there is such a thing), but for what this is, it does it pretty dang well.  A lot of the action begins extremely suddenly. Car crashes, gun shots, explosions, all that, very sudden.

Denzel is always good, and he doesn’t disappoint.  Ryan Reynolds is a great comedy actor, and hasn’t really been placed in a role where he had to be serious for the entire film. So, I wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to pull this one off, but he did and in fine form. Several scenes he was getting very upset and emotional, and it was believable and convincing. You really felt his pain when he was going through his issues as being a CIA operative.

Now, as for the story, I was glad they brought the they did. You find out early on that Denzel has some very secret information that he wants to sell that the some people are willing to kill him for. As the story progresses, we find out a bit more about what the information is, and who wants it.

This brings up something that is very topical and current in our culture today...but I don’t want to spoil the ending. So...go see it and then we can discuss it :)
