Go see it right now. In fact, I’m shocked and appalled that you haven’t seen it yet. I was worried that Christopher Nolen wouldn’t be able to top Dark Knight. There was no reason to worry.

Ok, where the heck to I begin. Let’s start with the cast. They’re all here. Everyone we love from the first two Batman movies by Christopher Nolen have repised their roles in the third and final movie. Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. If these were the only actors in this movie, we’d still see it. But, of course, they have to have new villans. Tom Hardy plays the main villain: Bane...and I have to say...I was very impressed with his performance. As a Batman comic, novel and Animated Series fan, I think they nailed his character. In the comics, Bane is not only intelligent, but large physically and very fast, one of the only villains to match Batman’s brain and brawn. And Anne Hathaway played Celina Kyle/Catwoman and although I’ve never been much of a fan of the Catwoman character, Hathaway did a great job respecting the playful, flirty roots of the comic book character, while updating her into Nolen’s modern believable world. A few new characters in Gotham are Blake played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (you know him from 3rd Rock from the Sun, Brick and Inception) and Miranda played by Marion Cotillard. I will not give anything away, so I’m not going to talk about these characters, but I will say they both did a great job. Now, if any of you know anything about the comic books, you’ll know what I mean when I tell you that this movie takes a lot of plot elements from the series No Man’s Land. If you don’t want to know some major plot points of this movie, do not click on that link. Just know this, if you thought the Joker did a good job in taking the entire city of Gotham hostage, then you’ll find what Bane does even more diabolical. I’m not going to say that this movie is the best I’ve ever seen. And I can’t necessarily say that it’s my favorite Batman movie...yet. (I saw the midnight showing, and the next night...we’ll see if I see it a third time). But I CAN tell you that this is definitely the best action/hero movie of the summer and it is simply a pleasure to watch a film come together as perfectly as this one did. The script, plot, filming, action, special effects, subtle humor, poignant moments, plot twists, all of it, everything, top notch. There is a saying from the book The Name of the Wind , “Not flawless, perhaps, but perfect.”
Here's what Movie Bob Says: He didn't like it as much as I did.
